CBMI Expands Into Orange County

Newport Beach, CA – Cal Building & Maintenance Industries (CBMI), a family-owned construction company headquartered in Hawthorne, CA, announced its entry into the Orange County market with a launch party at Commonwealth Lounge, a water-front restaurant in Newport Beach on Saturday, November 3.  “We have always been driven by customer service,” said Dan Zaharoni, one of CBMI’s principals.  “So, when two of our national customers, AIMCO and UDR, asked us to station technicians and staff in Orange County to service the construction needs of their multiple buildings in this area, we were ready to expand.”

Over the past several years, the company has stretched its Los Angeles-based geographic limits by handling ;maintenance and remodeling projects in Orange County, San Bernardino, Riverside, and recently staffed several large apartment jobs in Salinas, California.  The housing slump had severely affected CBMI, along with the rest of the construction industry, and the company needed to find new sources of revenue to supplement its typical business of constructing new multi-family apartments and condominiums.

“During these difficult past four years, you evolved or you died,” explained Ed Hutcherson, CBMI’s president.  “Our traditional business model didn’t work anymore, so we expanded the one sector of the construction industry that had not diminished – the service and maintenance business - where we’ve increased our number of trucks three-fold.  This has helped contribute to CBMI’s survival and ultimate success while other construction companies have gone out of business.” Orange County is a natural extension for Cal Building & Maintenance Industries as many of its LA-based customers also have properties in and around Newport Beach, Anaheim and other prominent local cities.
